Favorite Moments of 2012: Made in America
Jay-Z curated the very first Made in America Festival in Philadelphia during Labor Day Weekend. Performers included everyone one from Jay to Run DMC, D'Angelo and Pearl Jam. The two-day festival drew over 50,000 concert goers and raised millions of dollars. A documentary is also in the works with legendary director Ron Howard. More footage here.
Favorite Moments of 2012: Barclays Center
The Nets finally made it to Brooklyn. Jay-Z opened the Barclays Center with eight shows. Take a look at the documentary spotlighting his concert series.
Favorite Moments of 2012: Hip Hop at Carnegie
Jay-Z was the first hip hop artist to headline a concert at the prestigious Carnegie Hall. Two Nights, all white, and a few special guests. Here are some performance videos below.
Favorite Moments of 2012: Little Miss Blue
The birth of Little Miss Blue Ivy Carter was definitely a moment in my ten years of Jay and Bey fandom. I recall the tweets of the relatives of those who worked at the hospital saying that Jay-Z and Beyonce were there Saturday night and that the baby had arrived. I awoke Sunday morning and immediately grabbed my phone to check Twitter (that was part of my morning routine). The reports had pretty much been confirmed that "Ivy Blue Carter" had been born. I then proceeded to roll around the bed while laughing my ass off because I knew the hoopla that was about to begin over her name. Let's be honest! You can't give that child a regular name like Ashley or Brittany. It's not fitting. I think her name is unique and personal, just like her lifestyle.
A day later, Jay dropped "Glory". Talk about the tears that streamed. This is definitely one of his most personal, emotional and beautiful songs. I'm sure Blue will cherish this when she gets older.
A month later, the Carters shared her with us on on tumblr. Sidenote: I always felt they were going to have a little girl (it was 'Beach Chair' that did it for me) and I just knew she was going to be gorgeous. But when I saw the pictures of her, I was like "OMG! OMG! OMG! Gorgeous! Gorgeous! Gorgeous!" Those are still stop and stare pictures 11 months later.
I'm very happy for them. Children are beautiful gifts and she is representation of their love. I respect the way they have handled relationship. They have been together for years. I think it shows that they are strong, committed, and truly love each other.

Jay-Z x Rolling Stone December Cover

Rick Rubin brought his OG magic out of storage to make one of the most explosive beats in rap history, setting body-slam power chords over the drums in Billy Squier's "The Big Beat." Jay-Z concocts an indelible pop chorus and sketches out a scene based on an encounter with a racist patrolman from his pre-stardom days. As Jay wrote in his memoir, "The first offense wasn't the crack in the ride but the color of the driver."

Jay-Z Nominated for Time's Person of the Year
Jay-Z and Psy Among the 'TIME' Person of the Year Nominees
This week, TIME announced its nominees for the 2012 Person of the Year, including a handful of pop culture figures in its usual mix of politicians, activists, and entrepreneurs. The music industry got not one but three nods, as Jay-Z, Psy, and Pussy Riot were all nominated.
Though Jay-Z didn't score any breakway hits in 2012, he still had a massive year, kicking off with the birth of his first daughter with Beyoncé Knowles in January (we're going to go ahead and predict she'll be nominated for this honor a couple of decades down the line). He also launched his own music festival, performed eight sold-out shows at Brooklyn's Barclays Center, and with his wife raised a LOT of money for Barack Obama's re-election campaign.
Psy transfixed America with his dance hit "Gangnam Style," and while it's uncertain whether the Berklee grad will ever have a follow-up hit in North America, he's certainly charmed his way to the top of YouTube.
Meanwhile, Pussy Riot, the anonymous performance art collective, drew attention to ongoing civil rights infringements in Russia after three of the members were sentenced to prison after staging a punk rock protest decrying the Putin regime.
The Person of the Year will ultimately be selected by TIME's editors, but they're allowing readers to cast their votes for fun's sake on the magazine's website. Voting closes December 12, with the "winner" announced on December 14. The official TIME Person of the Year will be announced December 21, when the issue goes on sale.

Jay-Z Featured in Pharrell's New Book
Hova discusses the effect of grunge in Pharrell's new book, 'The Places and Spaces I've Been'
In his upcoming coffee-table book Pharrell: The Places and Spaces I've Been (Rizzoli), human hyphenate Pharrell Williams includes interviews between him and notables ranging from Buzz Aldrin to Kanye West to Anna Wintour to Jay-Z. For the most part, they're of the tell-me-how-you-do-what-you-do variety, but the back-and-forth between producer-designer-rapper Williams and Jay-Z quickly reaches Nirvana. Literally.
"So, where were you mentally and physically when grunge music hit?" Pharrell asks Jay-Z. "Like where were you when you first heard, 'Smells Like Teen Spirit?'"
Coincidentally, Hova was in Pharrell's home state of Virgina when he heard the generation-defining song for the first time. But he's more interested in discussing why the song hit so hard than where he was when it got going. "First we got to go back to before grunge and why grunge happened," reasons Jay. "'Hair bands' dominated the airwaves and rock became more about looks than about actual substance and what it stood for—the rebellious spirit of youth....That's why 'Teen Spirit' rang so loud because it was right on point with how everyone felt, you know what I'm saying?"
Jay-Z then goes on to say that grunge actually stalled the rise of hip-hop in popular culture. "It was weird because hip-hop was becoming this force, then grunge music stopped it for one second, ya know?" he says. "Those 'hair bands' were too easy for us to take out; when Kurt Cobain came with that statement it was like, 'We got to wait awhile.'"
Next, Pharrell mentions that he used to see Jay-Z in his old Virginia stomping ground of Newport News, but Jay-Z is still focused on the Kurt tip. "I have always been a person who was curious about the music and when those forces come on the scene, they are inescapable," Jay says. "Can't take your eyes off them, can't stop listening to them. [Cobain] was one of those figures. I knew we had to wait for a second before we became that dominant force in music." From there, the conversation moves on to '90s hip-hop, the death of the Notorious B.I.G., and what makes a great record. It's not a bad attention-grabber for an opening chapter.

14 Years Ago Today...
Released 14 years ago today on September 29, 1998 (the same day as OutKast's Aquemini and A Tribe Called Quest's final LP The Love Movement), Hard Knock Life mixed Jay's newfound pop sensibilities with the unapologetic street gruff he'd been previously known for. And it was all spearheaded by the pain-stricken "Annie"-sampling title track.
"I feel like, that song, that record, that album took Jay to another level," former Roc-A-Fella recording artist DJ Clue told MTV News.

Jay-Z Opens 40/40 inside of Barclays Arena
NEW YORK — Jay-Z's whirlwind through Brooklyn continues. In the same week that the Barclays Center opens to the public, Hov unlocked the doors to his brand new 40/40 Club for the first time on Thursday night.
The new 40/40, located in the sprawling confines of the Barclays is a unique twist on the Manhattan flagship location. The ambiance is the same, but the new digs are tailor-made for the arena with the Brooklyn Nets hardwood in full view for club patrons.
"I walked around here earlier and I just seen everybody busy and at work trying to finish up and it was a great feeling," Jay-Z told gathering press as he entered the 40/40 for its grand opening. "A guy stopped me in the hallway and said, 'Man this is a great thing for New York City.' And that's what the whole thing was about.
Rihanna, J. Cole, Lyor Cohen and Hov's close friends and family all attended the first party at the eye-popping club. The opening comes just a night before Jigga will christen the Barclays with an inaugural performance on Friday. The multiplatinum rap star will follow with seven more shows.
The Barclays features 101 luxury suites, four bars and lounge destinations, three clubs and of course Jay-Z's 40/40 Club and Restaurant. There will be eight retail shops as well. In the coming months, the multi-billion dollar complex will not only house the Nets, but also open its doors to an array of artists like Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Green Day and Barbra Streisand. College basketball and boxing events will also bring fans through the door. Not since Ebbets Field, the Major League park which the Dodgers called home until they moved to Los Angeles in the late 1950's, has Brooklyn had an entertainment complex of this magnitude. [mtv]

Working...
^Yep, that's Bee inspired LOL |
I'm currently working on updating this site for the trillionth time. As you can see there is a new template up and I'm working through the kinks. I'm going to update some stuff that has happened over the last few weeks (for archive purposes) and course the eight straight shows at Barclays Center are coming up starting this Friday so look forward to updates on those shows...that's why I'm leaving the site open while I work on the template. It's just me and I'm STILL a Jay fan, I just have to find time and be motivated to keep this site up. Also, I will retweet something way quicker than I'll log on to do a post about it so pay attention to that Twitter Feed on the side. And I'm definitely going to change the domain name (Yay!). I'll let you know more later! In the meantime, I did something I haven't done in years *at least just for the heck of it* and made a lil' video. Check it out: Jay-Z on Beyonce II.
Thanks for your support,
Charli

Jay-Z & Beyonce one of the top couples in Music
Jay-Z and Beyonce land on Billboards Top Couples in Music List at Number 2. The list is compiled of couples with the highest album sales total from 1991 to present according to Nielsen SoundScan.
2) JAY-Z AND BEYONCE |
Aside from massively successful collaborations like "Crazy in Love," "Deja Vu" and "03 Bonnie and Clyde," the shining couple of the hip-hop world recently collaborated on a baby girl, Blue Ivy Carter, after marrying in 2008. Hova and Bey released a whopping 15 studio albums combined as solo artists and 10 more collaborative albums (or, in Beyonce's case, Destiny's Child albums), bringing their total sales to 62.3 million copies sold (32.2 million for Jay, 30.1 million for Bey).
Made In America Festival [9-1, 9-2]
Jay-Z's Made in America festival is just around the corner and the latest update from camp Hov is a big one. Jay has locked in director Ron Howard to film a documentary on the show, which will take place on in in Philadelphia September 1 and 2.
Imagine Entertainment's Michael Rosenberg confirmed that Howard will shoot the as-yet-untitled doc, which will be co-produced by Howard's longtime producing partner Brian Grazer, marketing executive/former record label exec Steve Stoute and Jigga.
The diverse line-up for the show includes Pearl Jam, the reunited Run-DMC, Passion Pit, Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Odd Future, Wale, Rita Ora, Drake, Miike Snow, Santigold, Janelle Monae, D'Angelo, Skrillex, Afrojack, Calvin Harris, Gary Clark Jr., Dirty Projectors, Chris Cornell, Jill Scott, the Hives, X, DJ Shadow and Prince Royce, among others.
>
Rosenberg said the movie will be a combination of footage shot before, during and after the event, with no release date confirmed at press time. It will mark Howard's first foray into filming a music documentary, even as he oversees the long-awaited re-boot of the beloved TV series "Arrested Development."
Jay, who also curated the line-up for "America," told reporters in May that he hopes the festival will be more than a party. "Whenever I enter into a project, I try to hit on some touch points. The first thing is: Is it great?" Jay asked rhetorically. "The second one is: Is it gonna push the culture forward?"
The news about the "America" doc comes on the heels of reports that Jay's significant other, Beyoncé, is planning to add to her already-impressive resume by helming adocumentary feature about her life and career that she plans to star in, produce and direct.
